About
Culture The inheritance of e the Japanese sense of beauty
We carefully preserve and pass down the sentiments and aesthetic values embedded in kimonos and obi, such as the craftsmanship of skilled artisans and the parent’s love for their child.

Design A design where chic fashion and elegance coexist
We pursue chic and elegant designs that align with contemporary trends, while holding deep respect for traditional Japanese textiles

Quality Reliable quality backed by experience and expertise
The width of kimonos and obi is approximately 30 cm, and there are also limitations on their lengths.
Additionally, for garments like formal kimonos, pattern matching is also required. Therefore, skilled artisans with experience in both Western and traditional Japanese tailoring skills craft these items with advanced skills and meticulous attention to detail.

Maintenance Sustainable practices
We not only upcycle unworn kimonos and obis, but also focus on repair and maintenance to mend any fraying or wear that occurs after use, ensuring they can be enjoyed for a long time

Staff
Tamatebako Owner designer Tamami Katsuma
Born in Tokyo. Studied fashion history, textile science, structural design, Japanese tailoring, and design theory at a university in Tokyo, and obtained a teaching license. During student years, she engaged in the design and production of event costumes. After graduating, she worked for a wedding dress manufacturing company. Upon becoming independent, she started a business creating dresses and stage costumes. She has since produced wedding dresses, costumes for celebrities, and costumes for dramas and commercials. During her work, she came across kimonos and obi left by her beloved grandmother and discovered the charm of these textiles. Feeling skeptical about the remake items commonly seen at that time, she pursued her own unique designs. This led to receiving custom orders, and in 2016, she founded "Tamatebako Handmade"

Tamatebako Creative director Miho Katsuma
She is responsible for design planning and overall marketing of Tamatebako. She also manages photography, video production, and the overall direction of shoots, etc. She serves as a social media marketing advisor and occasionally works as an artist.
